Gday all
new to the jimny thing, got one for me daughter as her first car (2012 with the bonnet scoop). Came with a 2" body lift (yuck) and 2" lift and 33" tyres, drove like a fukn boat , put standard size tyres back on it and it settled it down slightly, removed body lift and put a new 2 " kit in it and new front and rear trailing arms to suit the lift, it has mellowed down the death wobble but at 70km/hr its still there, wheel alignment was do e when the suspension was replaced, ive read tyres have been a issue as well, so other then replacing the rubber i was told maybe swivel hubs and wheel bearings, has any one got rid of these said death wobbles and if so what was the contributing factor?? Have been told jimnys are prone for it as soon as you start changing things.
Any info would be greatly appreciated and yes i have read other threads regarding this but like alot of then i have replaced alot and cannot point it down to a specific area to sort out. Dont want to be chasing my arse around like it seems ive been doing.

Jimny wobble is usually not actual death wobble it's normally a significant but not catastrophic vibration in a select speed range around 45 to 55 mph that you can usually drive either side of fairly well it's primarily caused by worn kingpin bearings and is easily fixed. That said actual death wobble is a self feeding oscillating in the steering that you can't hold and have to stop the vehicle to reset. That doesn't mean you can't have death wobble in a jimny especially if there is significant wear in steering ball joints wheel bearings kingpin bearings and if the geometry is wrong from being lifted and it has oversized chunky tyres on. It sounds like you have removed most of the additional contributing factors so I'd look at steering ball joints and kingpin bearings and if budget allows some modest known brand all terrain tyres not cheap Chinese ones.

I would echo what Lambert said, check the kingpins, they seem to have a relatively short life on a Jimny, especially one which has been lifted, large tyres and used off-road.
Jack the wheel and check for play, top/bottom is definitely kingpins, side to side can be kingpins or other steering components.
My 2011 had play in one side and no play in the other, but both sides were shot. It’s lower cost in parts than new tyres.
