I thought i could lead cable from battery through firewall and then into the windshield pillar and up from the areal pass...
If you run the lighting cable through one of the racks tubes, you will make it difficult to remove the rack for whatever reason. Far better to run it on the outside and cover it with Gorilla tape.

Open the back door or tail gate (whatever name you know it by) and look at the hinge side - there's going to be a rubber tube that protects the wiring that leads to the door, for rear wiper, power door locks, rear screen heater, etc. - that's the grommet you can run the wire through.
Come out the bottom of the grommet and run the wire up to the roof, leaving a loop (so that any water drips off).
Look at the roof, the feet of your roof rack sit in a channel where the sides of the body meet the roof - there is a cap over that channel, it can be metal plastic or rubber, and it can be removed, and a wire hidden underneath it.

That's what plugs & sockets are for - on the two installations I mentioned there was no visible tape on the outside of the vehicle, and the wiring was only visible where it connected, via a plug & socket, to the light bar. The light bar itself was below the leading edge of the rack, and between the rails making it quite the "stealth" installation.
Removal & replacement of the rack could be done in under thirty minutes by a single person, in fact, the same rack was used on both vehicles & switched from one to the other as needed
I just Drilled out the FM antenna and run the wire up the A pillar and out the antenna base.
For my rear lights I drilled holes and used rubber grommets and added sealant.
Paint the edges of the holes you make and keep it sealed and you need not be so afraid of drilling holes in the car.
