Especially at this time of year but also more generally with setting out for work at half 4 in the morning I'm finding the automatic headlights to be relatively useful as it's one less thing to have to think about when fresh out of bed, however while I have discovered the buried menus that affects the see me home light I don't seem to be able to make it so that the high beam can be controlled manually when in automatic. The flash function works and i can hold them on but at relatively low speed on unlit roads of which I have to drive quite a few of the ability to see is quite useful. I can obviously select full manual on the stalk but that requires remembering which at half four in the morning isn't necessarily an option. Is there any setting I have missed that allows adjustment of the parameters for automatic high beam? For instance the nanny camera switches them off when it sees oncoming headlights or street lights regardless of the speed I'm going?

If I remember correctly the Auto Headlights is controlled by ambient light, i.e. it won't turn on if streetlights are lit. And speed, i.e. it won't turn on below 20mph (I think?).
I find it does work well for me and is quick to turn them off for oncoming traffic, as long as you are on unlit roads doing more than 20mph.

I haven’t used the auto headlights much four two reasons:
Once when out on a dark country road, I couldn’t get them to go back to main beam, they just stayed in dip, despite no traffic, no lights and doing about 45mph.
Secondly a lot of my journeys are conducted in half light and I hate the lights swapping from side lights, DRL and dipped headlights too frequently. I know LEDs are long life, but I worry about them switching on and off.
I sort of prefer the old fashioned manual approach, you know where you are then.

Notwithstanding some of my tracks not being fit for 5mph I'm finding that they consistently stay off at 40mph hence wondering if it were an adjustable parameter. The whole disco light thing during the day if you have an sr71 fly over the sensors in the middle of the day I can ignore but being able to see at night is fairly important.

So it's another one for the list of things that might have been good if there had been just a bit more thought and expense. Fair enough.
