Serial number identification was created by Lambert
Question, does the last 6 serial number relate specifically to the model or is it based on when a build entered the line of total factory output? I.E. is Temeraire counted just against the other jimny or is she counted in with the swifts and ignis' and vitara and swaces or whatever else came out of the same facility?

looking at the reference to VIN numbers in the service manuals it looks like the last digits are just the jimnys.
Also when we know there have been made over a million Swifts, and 2.8 million Jimnys up until Temeraire the count must be just the Jimnys.
Vin numbers are public in norway so I found some random ones from ads:
JSAFJB33V00128868 jimny 1999
JSAFJB43V00193492 jimny 2004
JSAFJB43V00300021 jimny automatic 2005
JSAFJB43V00204570 jimny manual 2005
JSAFJB43V00207657 jimny manual 2005 (my own)
my guess is that the last five is the count within each chassi variation.
Edit: says sometimes online it is the last 6 but I got a bit startled by the auto up there as it is the only one starting at 3. could be just becuase they made autos from then on.
Edit 2: Looks like the Auto up here is something weird as it has the facelift bumper that I thought was only delivered from later. These Norwegian Jimnys most often have the wrong model year in the registry as they were imported by a large bulk and then sold on from stock over the next 2-3 years.

The numbers relate to any Suzuki, the letters further back in the vin denote Jimny, Vitara, Swift etc.

So by that token I might reasonably assume that all the unique identification tells me is that a jimny with a higher number than mine is newer but not by how much or rather not by how many. So I definitely know that there are 2 2018 registered jimny that have higher numbers than temeraire because I have looked at them but I can't use the actual numbers to determine how many others that I haven't seen might be out there. Hmm I'm off for a look on how many left.

Right now apparently there's 477 2018 jimny in the country of which 6 are sorn for whatever reason. Some of those and probably the largest part are going to be gen4..unfortunately how many left doesn't have the granularity to separate those out but it might be safe to say 300 or so leaving me with 170 ish. January and February won't be 18 plates so I can loose another 110 ish. Obviously this is just the ones that haven't had half a day out with the dismantler. Hmm interesting.
