Hey Mob
Looking for winch recomendations for my jimny. Looking for something a bit lighter weight. I have an XROX bullbar fitted. Anything under 20kg would be ideal
Cheers

There was a thread on this very topic last few days. The easiest way to reduce the weight of the winch is to specify synthetic rope instead of steel cable, safer too. The other way is to specify a lower straight line pull so going for a 6000lbs model rather than 8000 or 9500. That does however mean that you may occasionally need a pulley block to increase the force applied if you are very stuck. All that being said what is your intended use, looking cool, saving your mates land cruiser at the swamp every weekend or insurance in case you need it on a solo trip off road? All these have different options. Also have a look at a none fixed winch either electrical or mechanical that you might attach at either end of the Jimny to give you the versatility of going backwards out of trouble.

Many of us in the group that I wheel with in South Africa have opted for the Runva 4500 with synthetic rope. It weighs in at a mere 11Kg.
My logic is that if you need more than 2 tons to recover a 1 ton vehicle, then look at what is causing you to be that stuck. If you do need the extra pulling power then a snatch block will double the force.

Most bullbars and winch bumpers are designed for the standard frame size used by 8000lb or bigger winches. You can get 6000lb in the same frame style though they aren't as common. Once you go smaller you need to modify the bumper to fit the winch.
For practicality you can't beat a small winch that can be fitted either end.

Looking for a nice clean and straight LHD Jimny..... Not any more.
Got one that seems to have been magnatized and driven through the "Big Jimny Bits" parts stores too quickly so it missed a few items.

Get a nice small winch just big enough for yours & your Suzuki friends' Suzukis then try this line.... "Sorry mate it's only a 5,000 it barely moves mine so it ain't enough for your Land-rover"
I'm against using my winch to rescue idiots who get their unprepared vehicles stuck.
Over 20 years ago something broke on my 6000lb winch from pulling out a complete stranger in a LR who asked me to. It was funny at the time. Th next week I had drive it 1/2 way round the M25 to drop it off at Ramsey then a few weeks later go back & get it after paying over £100 repair bill out of my own pocket cos that complete stranger didn't offer anything except maybe a "sorry" & Ramsey don't take "sorries" as payment.

None fixed winch? Is this a Tirfor or something like the ‘Winch in a bag’ by Superwinch?
Not sure if the winch in a bag is big enough to free a stuck Jimny or if they are any good, has anyone tried them?
