1991 Open Top Samurai OR 2007 Jimny

Hi - looking for inspiration.....

I have the opportunity to purchase either a 1991 soft top Samurai (with full MOT & 45k) or a 2007 Jimny with full MOT (102k). It will not be a daily driver. It will be kept outside and will be used in case of bad weather, some offroading but nothing extreme (slightly hilly fields, mud tracks etc), lugging stuff like garden waste to the tip, transporting wood for a wood burner.

The appeal of Samurai is basic, functional etc. The appeal of the Jimny is comfort etc.
Are my downsides right...…..

Samurai will be cold in winter due to soft top
Samurai may be difficult to get spares
Jimny has push button 4WD and vacumm system (less reliable than Samurai)
Both potentially have rust issues but is one more prone than other - Jimny hasn't been welded yet so maybe on the cards.
Samurai ride is potentially harsher due to leaf springs.....
Samurai price is about £1k less than Jimny and tax and insurance is c £200 pa less

Given the choice what should I go for (I just wish there wasn't a choice) and anything else I should consider??

Thanks

Paul

Samurai no question. Clean Jimny's are by the bucket full, a clean samurai rare as hens teeth. There are enough people with new old stock and repop parts still available for the samurai. It's not cold and uncomfortable, it's character building!

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
Bellerophon (2024 grello van daily
ADOS Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny!

^^^^^ exactly. +1
I would add though that rust is the Jimny / Samurai killer, so long as the Samurai is rot free then go for it.
Don't fear the rag top, my Land Rover is canvas and is not that bad (from a warmth point of view), but it does leak around the edges, but thats Land Rover.
Security may be an issue with a tent roof, but only you know the area and location of any potential parking spots you will use.,.

Keep the Samurai in good order and its classic resale value should climb, a 2007 Jimny is going to depreciate further no matter what you do.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Does the Samurai suffer with death wobble too - ie should I be looking out for it?

Any 4x4 with a solid front axle has the potential do it, so Samurai is included in my opinion.
But its normally just worn suspension and steering components, or bent / unbalanced wheels, or faulty damper, or previous owner mod etc.
But it can be fixed.
