deisel being better for mpg

A bit of diesel in a petrol car doesn't instantly knacker the engine but usually causes an appalling quantity of white smoke, like a Red Arrows display. Probably kills the catalyst fairly quickly due to overheating, too.

Petrol in a common rail diesel car is much nastier and can cost £5,000 or so in replacement bits.

FWIW I wouldn't want a diesel Jimny. I don't like diesel engines in small cars as the vibration seems to be worse and the extra weight is very noticeable. In fact, I don't like diesel engines much at all because I cycle to work and I can tell you that they all stink, even the newest and best with DPF.

It's the other way round.......a small amount, small , of petrol in a diesel engine cleans it out.
