I've seen loads of pics of Jimnys with the number plate on the bonnet made with stick on letters / numbers.
Apparently these are illegal so does anyone know the score? Just thinking of how many spare plates I might need going off road with the plate still on the bumper!
Cheers

I quizzed the testers at work on this subject, they said as long as the lettering size, font and spacing are ok, and the plate is clear to read, then it would go through a mot no probs. As for legality I'm not 100% but I'm sure as with the test as long as the sizes and fonts are ok then you should be fine.

I know quite a lot of people that use them and have not heard of anyone having any problems with the police.

Thanks guys.
I was in the local car spares place a couple of days ago and noticed a big red sign next to the plates and letters stating they were illegal in the UK, so I didn't buy any. Not sure why they still stock them, I bet they cant sell many

Probably covering there arse I case someone buys them, bodges up the plate to the point that it isn't legal, and then tries to blame the shop when they get fined by the old bill. (I assume you mean separate letters that you stick on yourself?)
Same with all the italics, bold font ect, usually sold as 'show plates' to cover the seller.

I got mine from eBay for about a fiver, ready made. All standard size and font :)
