I reckon it took me about 20 hours all in to do the same job :O:O:O

Collected my Jimjam from my father in law's workshop as he rebuilt the starter for me (that's what he does for a living - rebuilds starters and alternators and fits them for people). It had been sticking on for a second when I released the key and then started to whir but not turn the car over.

There were two issues, the first was the mud inside it stopping it from disengaging when I released the key - I guessed that one - the second was a busted drive, which has been replaced with a new one, so now it's like new and starts it lovely!

He had it for just over a week as real customers take priority - I missed not having it around, but at least the old thing starts nicely now!

mine was reasonably quick but had loads of already checking it over, I done a mk3 golf clutch last night in about 2 hours but I think clutches are easy when you have done one on that car before. one thing I found with the jimny was that I couldn't see a way that the gearbox would come out and done the clutch through the gap which will happen again if I have to do any more

Yeah I had never done one before, didn't have all the right tools so had to improvise.

The other problem is that I only had my lunch hour to unpack my tools from the shed, do stuff then pack all away again in my lunch hour, which meant I could not really get going.
