Good welders in Surrey? was created by GuardianAngel
My J needs a bit of welding done in the boot area. Its nothing major, just a small hole about the size of a 1p piece but I was quoted £100 by a garage!

Anyway I wondered if anybody knew of anybody in Surrey who is good and charges an honest rate rather than rip garage off prices?

Is anybody on here good with welding? Would rather give the money to you than a garage.

depends how big the hole is and where in the jack well it is may even need to take the exhaust off to do a good job but £100 is cheap depends if the plate ends up being big like this

Mmm its only about the size of a penny but a fair bit of surface rust. If £100 sounds cheap, then I think I will try and prep the surfaces myself as much as possible before taking it to the garage.

What would you say was a reasonable hourly rate?

it always starts as a small hole then you clean it up and it ends up a lot bigger if it is that big £100 is a lot

The rust will probably b bigger than it looks, and it's only thin metal in the boot area/jack holder so soon as you start welding it blows holes so that patch getts bigger and bigger..

Do you know any mechanics, they might do it as a private for cheaper
