Diff breather was created by ZookFastback
Got asked what a diff breather is and why modify one.

Diff breather is simply a small extension on top of diff that allows air in when hot diff hits cold water. This causes a contraction in the volume inside diff/axle assembly and so without it air or water would be drawn in at weakest point, which probably would be wheel bearing, which is much lower and probably would suck water in, eventually destroying dif or bearings. :S

So, why fit a hose to the breather?

By fitting a hose, which is run up along chassis to a high point under bonnet or inside and under dash, the air that is then drawn in is dry and oil is not contaminated.

Make sure the hose is long enough that it wont be stretched/broken at full extension. I also gather my breather hoses together and run into a small air filter from Lawnmower or aquarium. Fussy bugga I am.

PS No need to remove axle assembly, I just happend to have a couple spare :P
