A few questions guys! was created by Emplan
Hi Guys,

Still looking for the right little Jimny to come along so while i'm waiting I thought i'd put the time to good use and buy the things i'll need and store them ready for when I eventually find the right vehicle!

Ok, here goes with the newbie questions:

1. I'm planning on getting these:

www.4x4tyres.com/index.php?show=wheels&mid=15&mod=50&wid=1368

The vehicle will be used 90% on road, am I right in saying that with no lift 215/75/15 will be ok?

Will they be ok once the 3" lift has been done or would i need to get a bigger wheel/tyre?

Ahhh, and any advice on what tyre would be good for a road/off road split of 90/10%.

2. I'm going to lift the little motor by 3", this is the bit i'm really struggling with:

www.jimnybits.co.uk/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=2 £279.00

www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/jimny/50mm-lif...master/prod_272.html £612.00 (2" lift)

www.bigjimny.com/store/index.php/jimny-p...it-petrol-/p_32.html £500.00 (2" lift)

www.offroad-armory.com/jimny.html £1200.00 A lot more bits in the kit?

www.rhinorays.co.uk/suspension.htm £950.00 (2.5" lift)

There are soooooo many other things that some sites suggest you'll need and others dont:

Prop spacers
caster correction bushes
Extended hoses
Relocation brackets
steering damper kits?
Radius arms
Poly bushes
panhard arms

Sorry for so many questions guys (dont even own one yet :( ) just dont want to waste money on stuff I dont need, but i'm not afraid to put my hand in my pocket if its really needed!

Where do I start then :P

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards

Emplan

Right, 215/75 on those modulars, FINE without lift. I had these sizes on min without lift... Only one that may cause problems are extreme treads on remould tyre as these will be larger. Mine were bfg mud terrains... no scrubbing

pic, with 215 and modulars

tyres, id go for mud terrains personally, all terrains are great but when it gets muddy they struggle, mine are great on road and use it everyday for lots of miles! (bfg mud) but id recommend kumho kl71, maxxis trepador, mine, hankook dynapro mud... plenty of others but these i hear are all good on road.

Ive got now the 3" lift from jimnybits, procomp es1000

Bought caster bushes, never fitted ( decide if you need them then buy)

Panhards can wait, not that important if you ask me.

You NEED longer Hoses (Martin)

So, lift and Hoses...then go from there.

215 75 with the 3" lift looks good in my opinion, saying that ive just ordered some 235's but thought the 215's looked great :-) Maybe for sale ;-)

215 and 3" procomp

BigGaz,

Thank you very, very much!!

I was hoping for that sort of answer :)

Let me know how you get on with the 235's, if your happy with them then give me a shout about the 215's buddy :) hopefully we can sort out a good deal for both of us, i'm in Essex by the way for shipping :P

Just need to find that right little Zook now

Kind regards

all of the above kits are good :)
it all depends on how much you want to spend
the dearer kits come with caster corrected radius arms -ORA & rhinorays
you should get the extended brake hoses for safety's sake
don't need prop spacers or poly bushes

however once you've been off road you'll want more abillity - rocklobsters, difflocks etc etc
enjoy :)

Have you thought about buying a Jimny that's already been modified? Looking on eBay the modified cars don't seem to go for any more than the standard cars
