been looking at dashcam apps for the phone and found one that's pretty good so thought I share 
tried out several but it's AutoGuard Dash Cam - Blackbox that gets my vote
easy to use, lets you save video files and unlike most of the others lets you specify the saving location (i.e. 32gb SD-Card rather than defaulting to limited internal storage)
example footage below,
despite the camera shake from a lack of image stabilization on my meager Samsung S4 mini, it's more than adequate
