'Quotes'

Despite all the help and advice from a variety of Forum members (all appreciated, of course!), me and Ian the Wombat are still finding it impossible to finish up with the correct 'quote' format, and it's becoming very frustrating, not to mention embarrassing.

Is there any chance someone can post a definitive guide on how to do it properly, please.

Those of us who are of a certain age (sorry, Ian!!), don't seem able to get our heads round it :whistle:

I don't understand the problem, you hit the quote button and job done. Unless you try to edit the contents of the quote in which case you have to be careful when you select the text because the bracket after post=nnnnnn tends to get selected and deleted as well which messes it up.

The other method is to start a reply then select a section of text and hit the quote icon.

the text is then automatically placed between the quote tags.

The format for the tags is essentially [ quote ] blah blah [ /quote ], note that I've added spaces so it displays as text. If you have nested quotes then you need to make sure that each one starts and finishes with a tag.

Just hit the quote button at the bottom of someones post, move your cursor down to the bottom of the message box without disrupting any of the text or brackets and type what ever you like...

Thanks, Rhinoman, but I think in my frustration that I left out an important part of our problem.

As you say, quoting is simple provided I want to quote 'the whole text'
However, what I didn't say is that our problem is quoting a specific word or phrase picked out form the text, not the whole thing.

I do feel totally dense over this, just can't get my head around it at all....sorry!!!! Mechanically, I'm up there with the best, but here.............. :sick: :sick: :sick:

I'm sure there are other ways of doing it, but I quote the whole text first, then highlight and delete the parts I dont want to quote, but you have to be careful not to delete or disrupt the parts with the square brackets: [ ] as these set the formatting. There will be a section similar to:

[quote-"gusthegorilla" post=155583] at the start and

[/quote] at the end of the quote.

If you interfere with these then the quote won't work.
