Namely Hermes. Sending parcels is getting to be a nightmare. A little rant. You had to be there. It beggars belief so you would never believe it. I took two boxes one was 70cm and the other 110cm long to a nearby drop point. SWOM carries the smaller one and I follow right behind with the other. The shop is a little corner shop and the rather large and heavy shoppie is locked in a kiosk. She tells us to take the parcels round to the kiosk's door. She emerges and takes a look and on viewing mine says it is too big. "The driver won't take it if it is (taller) bigger than the mark". She points to a sharpy made mark on the door frame. So I tipped the box over and said "How about now?" for a bit of fun. Needless to say she didn't see the funny side. Then a few ideas/comments were passed to her like it is pre-paid, it has to go, like there is no length restriction......blah blah blah. She then tells me I can speak to the manager. "Yes says I". In the interests of brevity the manager comes out 10 mins later and picks up the offending box while all the time the *** is making comments as earlier. He puts the box to the door frame and guess what; it is even well below the mark by a good few inches.
I have to say we never got to test it because the H*****r was adamant it was too big and was argumentative from the get go.
So when he saw it was below the mark Mr. Manager said they would take it. *** said van man won't have room in his van, it is too big so Manager said it might have to, or even could, go on Sunday (Herpes collect every day about 3pm, including Sunday).
The [strike]censored[/strike] wasn't even embarrassed and continued to argue with the manager while he was scanning them. You just can't get the staff these days - I'd have told her to shut up or get sacked. I am still aggravated.

I use UPS for everything, yes there a few quid more than Hermes. But its always arrive next day, and the tracking works.
Hermes are cheap, but I think the adage "you get what you pay for applies"

There are a few good ones including ParcelForce. Most of them are much the same even so. Also there is the problem of size with some.
It's the drop off that works for me. I hate waiting in for a collection.
I used to use iPost who were nearby and are excellent but they moved to Coventry and have a small reception farther away than it used to be.
