How hard

How hard is this to do?

Certainly got a locker in the rear, and maybe in the front too. Some looks simple, some very hard, he seems a fairly skilled driver though and doesn't mind getting a bit of damage to the car even if it is a shiny. Most trialers are off road only, there's a bit if travelling involved and you get 5 minutes driving and then an hour sat about , fun when driving but boring sat about.

I saw no rock sliders. Is that a mistake judging by how he dropped on those tyres about halfway through. At least there was no mud. :whistle:

It's good to watch but not for me.

He's a good driver. Knows when to go steady, knows when to gun it. He picks good lines too. So it's not as easy as he makes it look, but nothing a standard Jimny with a similarly competent driver couldn't do! Conditions looked fairly ideal too. A drop of rain would soon stop him doing that on road tyres.

I wouldn't say rock sliders are particularly necessary for that sort of thing. Remember tyres are made of rubber, not rock! Does the Pinin have a ladder chassis or is it monocoque?

It is monocoque though it has a recognisable ladder chassis but welded to the upper body - I know, it is a shame. It is one of the downsides of the Pinin IMHO because you nearly always see welding done to the outriggers-to-chassis. Unlike the Jimny the Pinin is not in production (though there were some later models made in Brazil) so getting one in AI condition is hard but you can get superb used ones (from the point of view of underbody condition at least) imported and if given some underbody protection I would guess would last for donkey's years.

The video is of a Junior. I have a Pinin and a Junior (and a Pajero 2.5 lol) .



I found the Junior to be sooooo like the Jimny that it is spooky but it too has a ladder chassis welded to the upper body. I can see why the Junior is so popular and led to the development of the iO (Pinin) as it seems to be liked worldwide and very very capable. I much prefer the Junior to the Pinin but spares are much harder to get as it is JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) only.

I only run autos and do not go serious off-roading so (body) lifts are not really a concern for me.

It seems all Mitsubishis have the same chassis arrangement! I was surprised to see my friends Delica was the same.

Whats the difference between the Pinin and the Junior?

Rust doesn't bother me. I'll repair it if its economical to do so, but normally on my vehicles everything else is pretty battered and worn out before the point that rust becomes an issue. Except for Defenders- we've had some that have needed major chassis welding at just 5 years old.
