Interchangeability of front drive shafts was created by Frankenjimny
I have a 2007 Jimny. Unfortunately when changing the kingpin bearings I found the driver's side CV joint is badly worn . It seems you can't get replacement cv joints for these newer Jimny's, and a new half shaft from Suzuki is over £350, so I'm looking for a used replacement. However, I want to make sure the replacement will fit! I have read about changes to the diff and to the number of splines on the ends of the half-axles. Is this true? It would be really helpful to know if say a 2003 or 2005 or 2009 used drive shaft will fit. Can anyone advise please? Or does anyone have a replacement for sale?

I assume you have seen the 6-ball reply?

Thanks Martin, yes I have (just got SMS too, thanks!). However, I took a photo of the bearing number on the CV joint and it is NTN E8J82 - which makes me wonder if my memory is correct and it has 8 balls! I'll find out this evening and then contact CPS for a refurb quote if it is 6. I'm still interested to know about interchangeability though just in case!

That's great! Thanks for the info for the replacement CV joint. I take it then that it would not be wise to swap an 8-ball half-shaft for an older 6-ball one, even if they would fit.
