I had an email saying i had a message i logged in the was an unread message in the top right corner i clicked on it and there was no message is this a problem or did the person delete it

I have not seen a problem in this area although its possible.
As you say perhaps someone deleted it? If you set the system to email you then the user cannot delete the message as you have already received it!
