Of course he means "under the steering column" on a 2007
The latch is "handed" for RHD and LHD cars. As the cable moved from the Glovebox to under the steering on the 2007 models I wonder (BUT I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE) if the latch changes around as it has effectively moved sides in the car??
I have just sold our later model Jimny so cannot pop outside and look

So 2007 have a left hand cable entry and pre-2005 have a right hand cable entry (UK cars only!!!)
So you have to have a post-2005 part OR one from a LHD car.

I will know next time time to come to the font of all knowledge regarding these fantastic little cars before I go on line with the rubbish you have to wade through . I drive an HGV all day so find it very small indeed. It is a left hand cable which runs smoothly in and out, even though the car is an 07 plate it has only done 17,000 miles and been serviced 4 times, the last MOT before I bought her had an advisory of 4 new tyres as the original ones were starting to perish.
Once again a great many thanks for you help I will be on here again very soon I am sure
