Just a rant really. Today we had some snow, not much but a reasonable covering on untreated roads. So, on my way to work which now involves a detour on an untreated road I very quickly caught up a Ford Kuga. And then I had to sit behind it for two miles as it tip-toed down the road occasionally reaching a break neck 10-15mph!!!! It was going so slow it felt like I could have parked up and ran to work quicker!!!!!! I'd bet that a rear drive BMW or an MX-5 could have got down the road more quickly!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we had Snowmageddon last week, I was trundling along the sideroads when someone in an enormous Volvo AWD estate decided that he had to pull out of a side road right in front of me, rather than wait 10 seconds for me to go past.
Naturally he slid sideways due to the turn and power applied and hit the curb.

he was then so frightened that he wouldn't go above 5 mph right on my front bumper.

(Why do people who insist on pulling out in front of you (forcing you to brake for them) when there is absolutely nothing behind you always drive at 25mph right on your front bumper  )

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Agree, knob 'eds the lot of them. I fancy some air-to-airs for my J for such occasions

Don't even get me started on that, it seems to happen to me all the time in the Jimny

they think twice when they see the steel bumper and scaffolding hanging on the outside... oh and the many, many dents

the Kuga doing 15 mph was probably a 2wd as the vast majority are

I agree with Darth, it probably was a 2WD.

In addition to the Little Beast I've got a Qashqai 4WD for cruising down the motorway (let's face it, the LB isn't made for motorway cruising) and the Q goes well in the snow and gentle off road stuff.

With the recent snow only 3 cars could get out of our road. The Jimny, the Qashqai and a neighbours Defender.

However, it doesn't matter what car they have. If they can't drive well anyway, they certainly can't cope in the snow.

Really?

I used to find that my battered series III on ex-military tyres with twin steel bumpers lamp guards etc was completely invisible to people in side roads when driving along a main road at 35mph.

I just had to hope they would get out of the way as I had zero grip in the wet :silly:

I had a little run-in with guy who had got his BMW stuck in snow... I was walking past when he called me over to ask me (or rather tell me) to give his car a push. After several minutes of 3 people trying to push his car out the snow he was going nowhere, it didn't help that he didn't have a clue what he was doing.

Eventually we gave up, and I said "it's a pity you don't have a rope, my 4x4 is parked over there"... To which he snarled "You mean you're telling me you drive a 4x4 and don't carry a rope!?!?!"

So I said "You drive a BMW, and you're stuck in the snow."

And then I smiled, and walked away...
