Failed CV Joint? was created by cameronskehan
Good evening gents,
Looking for some advice. There's a clunking/clicking coming from the front driver side axle that increases with the rotation speed of the wheels. When the clutch is engaged, it will jolt with a large clunk. From my research, this says failed CV joint?
I've replaced kingpins, swivel bearings, seals and diff oil, but this hasn't fixed the issue.

Usually a failed CV joint results in limited steering under normal road driving as it shouldn't be rotating when in 2 wheel drive. Off road in 4x4 drive then yes a failed one will click.

Thanks Lambert, what do we think about this being an issue with the vacuum hubs?

It is possible that the pipes have been put on the wrong ports but it is very obvious that something is not right when you drive with only one hub engaged, the noise is noa good or quiet one.

*UPDATE*
After exhausting my limited knowledge of repairs, I took it to the garage and they believe the noise is coming from inside the gearbox. Rather than rack up a large bill of dismantling the gearbox and replacing parts, I've been advised to replace the whole unit.
Does anyone know where I could source a gearbox for an 06 VVT 5 speed manual Jimny? Ideally removed and delivered.
Thanks!

Call me sceptical, but I have to wonder how we get from "A to B", front driver's side axle to gearbox, and I want to suggest another opinion.
Maybe remove the front freewheel hubs to disconnect the hubs from the axle shafts, maybe disconnect the front drive shaft from the transfer case & front differentials - isolate that entire front axle and drive the vehicle - is the noise still present?
