so while on holiday i decided to take the jack out and clean up the rust in the well, using a wire brush in my drill i started to clean rust away, then under the support bracket appeared a bl**dy hole...great, got my neigbour who is an mot mehanic had a look he also looked under the car !!!! both fuel lines corroded, also a brake line corroded, a crack in the chassis near shock support bracket .........oh and he found a hole in the door seal and the offside kingpin bearing leaking as well.........
NOT SUCH the bargain i thought i had, even though it had a recent NEW mot !!!! he is going to start work on it this week, i am aslo getting him to change ALL the diff oils, gearbox and engine oils and also he is going to clean off underside and apply waxoil coating !!!!!!!ANNOYED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT !!!!

All sounds usual jimny stuff. Once its done you can start enjoying it again. Good cars but they need looking after. Having a mate/neighbour to do it should lessen the pain. Get stuck in with him and learn your jimny. Its a good part of ownership.

I've learnt a lot since having the J and am confident of doing most things myself.

Any car will be reliable and last but it has to be looked after.

So an update, rang the mechanic tonight asked how things were progressing...... front axle seal/bearings and kingpin bearing replaced, all oils and filters changed, including diff gearbox and engine oil, new plugs, brake line replaced, the others ok, suspension bracket re-welded, fuel pipes and welding in boot and door seal going to be done tomorrow or wed. Oh and have to get a rear wheel bearing changed, can't wait to get her back :cheer: ;)

Just picked jimny up and what a difference, feels a lot smoother :laugh: and smells of underseal now lol. next job to fit the new wheels tryes and start to make template for blacking out the rear windows :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
