Bonnet Insulation was created by Zee Zee Top
As the title suggest I am looking for some bonnet insulation. It's not to stop noise, it's really to control the under bonnet condensation. I have had a rake around the web and there seems very few companys doing it. "Dynamat" seems to be on most hits but it's too expensive for me. Anybody know of any stockists of alternative products at a reasonable price?

cheers

Hi, do you actually suffer from excessive under bonnet condensation ?

Can't say I've ever noticed any as it's so well ventilated.

Wouldn't the insulation simply get wet, think I must be missing something, how does this occur ?

Hmmm. I've not really had that problem on any car I've had but I have use a lot of sound deadening materials for audio installs. Dynamat works well but costly, another product I've heard of is brown bread it's another sound deadening material. I've used bitumen flashing from b&q for car installs too. It all does a similar job.
Internally I've also used closed cell foam (like the stuff cheap camping mats are made of) as it's light weight and won't absorb water but I'd be concerned about trapping water behind it and rusting the metal. Spray glue would hold it on but I'm not sure how close the bonnet gets to exhausts etc as I've no idea how the foam will react to heat....it may melt... So make sure you check how flamible it is.

Hope this is of some help.

it's in the winter after a run when the engine bay temp is quite low as it cools down and the frost is starting, condensation would form on the inside of the bonnet. In other words leave the car for say an hour, open the bonnet and hey presto its wet.
Which is why I would want a waterproof sound proofing.
