Does anyone know if the airbags will still go off in an accident when hitting on your (mostly) welded on steel front winchbumper Dont really know where the impactzone is located? I think the M12 bolts are the weakest link between bumper and chassis but will they shear?

I think they are activated by impact sensors and you have to have a really hard whack to set them off!
We came over this with a bit of speed and stopped with a bit of a jolt, so much so I was worried about bending the winch bumper!
The air bags did not go off, thankfully, and there was no damage to anything on the car! We got winched out backwards and the world was a happy place once again!

I think i read somewhere the airbags are activated by an accelerometer which is located under the trim, in front of the gear stick/under the cig lighter

Oh tell me about it! I had walked up a track which comes up behind where we had stopped in the piccie and had seen I needed to turn left at the top but then pratted about going up it in 2nd and stalling half way up when I ought to have used 1st from the outset, then the memory card in the video camera ran out so I got distracted by that and I forgot to turn left. Result: Voila!
