Drive Belts

This section covers the engine drive belts, their configurations and adjustment. The Jimny has an Auxillary Belt (Fan Belt) and a Power Steering Belt.

There are a number of combinations and it is essential you get the correct belt.

Warning Icon.pngDo not purchase based on guidance below - you must identify the correct belt for your vehicle.

Nomenclature

For shorter naming, two abbreviations will be used in this article:

  • P.S. - Power Steering
  • A.C. - Air Conditioning

G13BB with P.S. but without A.C.

G13BB with PAS
  • PAS: Adjust mid point of belt between Pump and Crank (lower belt section) to 6 – 9 mm (0.24 – 0.35 in.) of flex by adjusting tensioner

G13BB with P.S. and with A.C.

G13BB with PAS and Aircon
  • PAS: Adjust horizontal (TOP) of belt to 3 – 4 mm (0.12 – 0.16 in.) of flex by adjusting tensioner

M13AA with P.S. but without A.C.

M13AA with PAS
  • Auxillary Belt - known part number for some models 95141-50F01
  • PAS:Adjust mid point of belt between Pump and Crank (lower belt section) to 6 – 9 mm (0.24 – 0.35 in.) of flex by adjusting tensioner

  • PAS+Aircon Belt - known part number for some models 17521-52E00
  • PAS: Adjust horizontal (bottom) of belt to 6 – 9 mm (0.24 – 0.35 in.) of flex by adjusting tensioner

Tensioners

This section covers the Tensioners.

There basically two types of tensioner. One with a small centre and one with a large centre. The small ones are more common on the G13B engines and the large centre ones tend to be on the M13A series engines.

Warning Icon.pngDo not purchase based on guidance below - you must identify the correct tensioner for your vehicle.

Small hole tensioner

Small hole tensioner
  • This is Suzuki part number 49160-82A00.
  • If the bearing has worn, then it can be replaced by pressing the old bearing out.
  • A suitable bearing is available in the BigJimny Shop HERE

Large hole tensioner

Small hole tensioner
  • This is Suzuki part number 49160-81A00.
  • This tensioner is commonly called a "smilely tensioner" because of the appearance.
  • If the bearing has worn then it can be replaced by pressing the old bearing out of the outer rim and pressing the smilely centre out.
  • A suitable bearing is available in the BigJimny Shop HERE

Replacements

  • First of all, the BigJimny shop has a high quality replacement bearing for sale (read above).
  • However, if you for some reason want to replace the entire tensioner assembly (generally a lot more expensive), you can either buy the original Suzuki P.N. 49160-81A00, or one of the aftermarket tensioners.

  • By the way, the bearing which Suzuki originally installs in this tensioner is NSK 6010DU2 (that's at least the case in M13A engined Jimnys made in 2013).
    • That bearing has rubber seals on both sides.
    • Specifications are: single-row, ball bearings, deep groove, 50 x 80 x 16 mm
  • NSK has allegedly superseded it with the bearing model 6010DDU.
    • However, since the specifications of those two bearings appear to be the same, it could very well be the same bearing, but just a changed naming nomenclature.

  • There is also a "premium" edition of this bearing.
  • The "VV" suffix means that is has special "contactless" double sided rubber seals (and made of some super tech rubber), which effectively allow far higher bearing RPMs and operating temperatures.
    • However, this premium bearing is about 3x more expensive than the "ordinary" one.
  • This premium bearing may be an "overkill" for this application (in other words, the standard bearing may be sufficient), but an expert should give an opinion.
    • However, if someone wants to indulge themselves with this premium bearing edition (instead of using chocolate or sex dolls for a change), then buy NSK 6010VV.
