Jimny owner from Hampshire :) was created by Leno
Hi all,

Having been into drifting for the past 6 or so years I decided to sell up and try something new!

I was given a stack of LRO magazines back when I was a young lad and since then I've always wanted a play off road. A landrover was slightly out of reach for me in terms of maintenance costs and overall size so I turned to jimny. Admittedly I thought this would be a compromise but how wrong I was, very lovely to drive and a nice size to work on.

This one has had a 4" lift kit fitted, extended breathers, a steering damper and some Hankook a/t's. Seems to be an ex hunting vehicle maybe? Previously had a dog cage in the rear and have found a few .22 shells kicking about. Full suzuki history, and bar a bit of rust in the boot floor, a very tidy truck.

Big plans but for now I've spent some time rust proofing it, repairing the boot floor, and changed all the fluids. (Rust proofing; wire brush & Hydrate 80 for everything, Dynax s50 for the cavities, black chassis paint then Dynax UB for those interested)

The front hubs seems to have been locked solid, forum research suggests this is probably best for what I intend to do with it but I'm tempted to fit manual lockers?

This forum helped me out massively in terms of research so I will attempt to give back what I can!

Welcome Leno,

You put it nicely about thinking jimny was a compromise, many jimny owners are ex Landy owners. When I was young my dad had a series 3 landrover, as kids we loved it but I remember him not having much good to say about it. Before buying my jimny I looked at a few defenders but the ones I saw were damp noisy and rotten.

The Jimnys do seem to be used by quite a few gamekeepers the .22 rimfire cases you found were probably from rabbit control.

Its a good job you have worked on Mx-5s before, I can see that you are clued up on your rust treatment. Other areas to treat are behind the front wheel arch covers and around the headlights.

Jim

Welcome to the club Leno. I have had a lot of 4x4's over the last 30 years and I think its safe to say the jimny is the most fun and very good off road. So good choice mate. :)

No mate from a small driveway dealer in Pulborough, (could well be Kirdford area, my geography is crap!) Although he took it in part x.

I'm from fleet.

Yeah that's Kirdford mate, saw it parked up when I went to the pub by there! and it was on ebay? I live in Normandy near Guildford so not far from you at all! I am new to all this off road stuff too - just bought my Jimny a few months ago and yet to take it proper 4x4ing - want to get a few bits sorted first! (Just having it all Buzzwelded atm) Good few lanes near me if you want to go exploring at some point or just meet up for a chat!

Sorry for the late reply. On eBay yeah! Like you I've been sorting a few bits on it first, rust proofing was my main concern then I've been getting a few offroad bits together!

I can't seem to find anyone local with a working landrover to go greenlaining with so it's be great to have someone to go with! I'll send you a pm now of my Facebook so we can meet up

Welcome along! Looks like you've saved some cash buying a nice one that s already had some mods done. Doesn't look too rusty either!

Jimny looks very good! what make is the lift?

I'm based in Aldershot, usually do lanes in my day off in the week which is Tuesday, and then make it to as many pay & play sites as I can, I did the lanes near Normandy this week. But would definitely like to meet up for to some lanes as a group!
