Jimny -2003 3" lift and 195/80/15 was created by Millen
Hi!

Thank you all for letting me be a part of your forum, hope I can contribute more when I have learned more.

Now I'm about to make my first modifications and I was thinking:
3" lift and 195/80/15(with inner tubes to be able to run low pressure).
I'm quite shure my other wheel sets has the standard width.

What are your thoughts about this?

Are there risks of tipping over on regular roads after heightening center of gravity without going wider?
Will be running it on standard sized tires to on some ocations to.

Best Regards
Mattias Fröberg

Why the 3" lift? You don't need it for those tyres and as you say it will increase the centre of gravity. I'd stick with tubeless too. You can still run them down to about 12psi which is good enough for soft sand.

I might want to put bigger tyres on in the future.
I've heard different about going under 1 bar in general, but that don't apply to Jimny for shure then?
Heightening will still get parts of the car out of the way.

Is cutting the wheel arches and bumpers up a good option if I never would go for bigger tires?
Can I fit this size or even bigger if I just do that?
What other parts might be in the way if I do so?

The Jimny is at least 30% lighter than your typical 4x4, so you can get away with lower pressures than normally recommended.
You can fit 195/80 15s without any lift or trimming.
A suspension lift will increase approach, departure and breakover angles so does have some benefits but it does not improve clearance under the axles and there are obviously downsides to having a tall vehicle too. When lifting to fit bigger tyres you are looking to gain clearance in the arches so look at spring spacers and/or a body lift rather than just longer springs.

Can I raise the axles themselves, compared to the rest of the undercarriage? To flush the diffcasings with the bottom at least.

Not easily, why? Essentially that would be lowering the vehicle giving the suspension significantly less space to work on an unmodified chassis and also seriously impairing the functionality of the propshafts. You could do it by massively reengineering the whole chassis and also how the body is mounted but again why would you want to, what would you hope to achieve?

As in most things, keeping it simple is normally the best way. 2" lift and 215/75/15 tyres I think is the best compromise of off road use and still being nice on road.

The axles are a solid tube with a wheel at each end, so the only way to get the diffs higher is fit bigger wheels. As Tom says you can't get them flush with the body without lowering the car, which would make it crap offroad.

I was thinking about heightening it all, suspension top mounts for more travel and everything else needed.
Just an interesting thought since the diffcasing still is low points.
Will do some searching about the subjuect in the forum, trying to find extensive rebuilds.
And don't forget that I'm new to this car and can't visualize parts, shapes yet and all the extra space yet. :)

It might just be, but I don't know if normal is the way I want to go. Don't classify even raising cars normal yet thou.
What would your thoughts be, comparing 195/80/15 and 215/75/15 in different terrains?

I'm not shure about that it is the only way, but I for shure know it would take extensive work.
If done, and if I still want clearence, I would need bigger diameter of tyre.

By the way, are there diffs that can fit in smaller casings?
I'm also looking at LSDs lockable from car, possibly front and rear by the way.
