misfiring? was created by rappey
Hello all. Recently bought a jimny for green laning, and as usual a new member and his first post with a problem !
Its a 2001, manual, 60k miles.
Drive a A or B road so your accelerating, slowing down for corners and not maintaining a constant speed for long then giving it hell offroading all day long and it runs perfect.
Go onto a dual carriageway and run at a constant speed, say 50 to 60 and after 5 mins the engine starts to splutter.. its like fuel starvation, or a dodgy ht lead.
The orange/yellow engine and immob lighs on dash randomly flicker like a bad connection and rev counter jumps and misreads..
The car splutters to a stop, but will tickover , rev the engine and it misses. Give it 30 secs or so then rev counter goes back to normal, warning lights go out and off you go again, until 5-10 mins later and the above is repeated ?
Tried scanning the ecu for fault codes but there are non.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a faulty crankshaft sensor. After some distance travelled at 60mph tachometer going crazy, check engine light and immobiliser light flashing, engine starting to cough. There have been some topics about it on the forums.

ordered a denso cam sensor, £30 so thats not bad at all.
.. will try and see how that works.. If im lucky it will solve the problem.
Just had a speed sensor replaced in my mercedes gearbox, that was £550 ! 2k from the main dealers ..
Nice to have something thats cheap (ish) to fix!

OK That is the M13A engine and it has the cam sensor. The G13BB does not!
