Noticed a weird noise when I first start the Jim from cold, it's as if there is something stuck to one of the belts it gets faster when I rev it but then goes away after a few minutes and if I park up then start it again it's not there only seems to happen when cold? Any ideas?
I'm going to start it in a few hours and see if it's there.

Would this have a bearing in it or something Keithy? And settles when it rotates for a bit?

It is fully engaged when first started.....then the fluid moves away from the inner vanes after around a minute.
Only time it re-engages is if the spring gets warm and rotates the engage mech/valve.
I'd start the car with the bonnet up when cold and have a proper look.

Ok thanks, had to pop out about an hour after I started it this morning and no noise. Will try and listen for it in the morning

Sounds like an engine to me! When you start and engine from cold it takes a big draw from the battery so the alternator is under most load just after starting and the power steering fluid is cold and more viscous, so the load on the auxillary belts is at its highest. This would explain why it is more noisy first thing than later in the day.

Watching this with interest, mine does the same, a whining noise that soon stops, but only does it the weather is cold

Thanks for the info Busta could be that.
I haven't herd it before last week and we have had colder days ? it's one of the new noises you hear when you know your own car like a new groan or clank/rattle you haven't heard before, if that makes sense
