2015 Jimny ESP/Traction control was created by jimny dave
Just been looking at the new revised jimny on Internet. With the addition of Traction control.. it's off road performance must be eeeven better now.
however, I was wondering if anyone has actually put it to the test? Does it work well in real life situations? Also, does anything happen to the system when low range is engaged? Some systems turn off esp don't they? Never understood that...

Regards,
Dave

Have a look here:
practicalmotoring.com.au/car-reviews/2015-suzuki-jimny-review/

They mention it further down in the article.
Personally I don't like traction control, my Dads old Nissan Navara and his Mitsubishi Triton both have traction control and if you get into a situation where it is a wee bit muddy (all 4 wheels on the ground), you cant plant your foot to get out as the traction control holds you back. In saying that though I'm pretty sure you can turn it off?

cheers I'll have a look
yes I think some systems when in low range still allow wheel slip I don't know. Intersted to find out though and yes you can switch esp off on most vehicles I think.

Just a quick summary - ESC / ESP, if fitted in a Jimny, can be turned on/off by using a dedicated button on the dashboard, next to the fog lamp control buttons.

This is valid at least in Europe.

Really? So they have fulfilled the EU requirement to fit it but missed the opportunity to make it useful off-road. That's a shame. They should take a leaf out of Landrover's book.

Hi,

I was getting a bit confused.

I've had a look at the current Jimny specifications and Suzuki are only advertising ESC, short for for Electronic Stability Control.

This does selective individual wheel braking to try and maintain vehicle stability if the driver has started to skid.

This does not facilitate a no wheel spin scenario when setting off with one wheel off the ground.

It is not traction control, it's a safety feature.

The ESC doesn't need to work in low ratio because you are not likely to go round a corner too fast in low ratio.

It's not an off road device.

Am I right?

I have just accidentally found this Australian review of a Jimny produced in 2015 (with ESP / ESC).

The review consists of a proper all terrain testing in difficult conditions and not just wise talking after some road driving like most reviewers do in Europe.

However, the reviewer clearly states that ESC worked for him in all-terrain driving, especially in cross-axle situations (by selectively braking certain wheels in order to force the differential(s) to deliver torque to the wheels with better traction).

Hadn't we here concluded that ESC does not work in such situations? Could this be market dependent (I doubt)?

I am "bumping" this tread again to remind if anyone has anything to say from practical experience on this Australian claim that ESP/ESC works as a traction control feature in cross-axle situations when low range gearing is engaged.

I would not exclude the possibility that Suzuki programmed the ESC/ESP computer in Jimny to work differently depending on the target world market.

I have read somewhere that when you switch to 4L, traction control changes its mode for off road and works pretty much like electronic diff lock. A very well feature.
Unfortunately, ı gave up buying brand new jimny after 1 year of waiting. got a crossover instead. The reason is from my home to my summer house on the mountain, there is 600km..and long journeys would not be comfortable. But i still think to buy one.

there was some talk about this on Auszookers when they got ESC, I forget the outcome but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
