Cheap and nasty brigade. Suttle way of making the qlique feel superior haha.

Riccy I appreciate your comments mate. Yeah disconnected is a nice bit of kit. Next on list.

Bits4vits, maybe im just trying differant bits of kit that may work and may not work. Modding and experimenting they call it!!

I've tried a few bits of kit some good some bad, doesn't always have to be top spec on paper to be a worthwhile thing.

Your attitudes have only mad me think why bother coming on here, I'll go back to quietly watching and keep myself to myself again.

Everyone's differant and works to a individual budget.

Hardly constructive hey boys.

Jimmy's or zooks in general are cheap option for 4x4. As for landy blokes spending more, rubbish its just the same as us lot. Some spend some don't and some spend where they feel its necessary and cut back on what's not.

Amazing what a lil idea can spark sometimes

Takes a man to say that, respect to you fella. I love my Jim. Spend hours on it weekly and I'm only trying and experimenting things to occupy my time.

Take care bits4vits my man

As we are on about suspension components lets consider the number of people on here running trailmaster or better suspension compared to those running procomp or equivalent or standard suspension with additional spacers, the ratio supports the above statement. A kit of parts for a lift that costs 2/3rd of the price of just dampers alone has to find that saving somewhere be it in materials used, construction methods or quality control. If the research and development budget only stretches to seeing what other cars have similar mounting points rather than thoroughly designing the product to suit the specific application of an individual model then the end product runs serious danger of being flawed in operation.

Like I said above for a retailer of modification parts in a budget conscious market sector to focus more on high quality expensive parts rather than the cheaper items the majority of the market wants is not going to make anyone rich.

Hello mate, I lifted Jim up 3" on springs and shocks and ran without roll bar for a year. Put larger tyres on and it was all over the road. Put roll bar back on and it much more stable and safer IMO.
When lifted it puts the roll bar under tension and the angle is not quite the same as stock.
Either spacer blocks where they meet the chassis or shorter drop links should bring those angles back to stock.
It might help and it might do naff all.

Met a lad Sunday running stock radius arms and bushes with four inch Jimmy bits spring lift with 2inch spacers. It was awful in my eyes but he was happy. 4 inch shocks and 6 inch springs lol. Wow.

Agree with the comment on shocks 11/60. I've tried astra shocks, pro comp and currently trying the black raptor. All OK but obviously not as good as avo or trialmaster.

This is it though. I looked at all sorts of dampers when I needed some and I honestly couldn't bring myself to fit anything that wasn't designed for the car, which essentially left me with another set of factory ones or the cheapest alternative being trailmaster which are actually a little bit dearer than the suzuki ones. The main thing is there's no right or wrong just shades of gray that an individual can live with.

Aww, please dont go Dave!

You are all right, which makes it tricky. There's the old phrase 'horses for courses' which seems apt here.

Modifying is a deeply personal thing. The individual needs and desires (and budget!) are major influences to the end machine. Ive seen many mods that i wouldnt even consider, but thats because they don't suit my needs. For example; I havent bought any of Dave's sexy superpro droplinks (yet!) because i have the disconnect kit, meaning the standard ones suit me (and they aint broke yet). When its time for new ones, then i would probaby buy the superpro ones as a little treat over the cheaper ones because they were designed by people much more clever than me specifically to suit the jimny. The subaru cheaper ones look fairly good in the pictures, but as i dont know the suitability, seller or brand i would be naturally wary of them (even though they are a lot cheaper).

With the topic of suspension I went for a trialmaster kit straight off from factory stuff because i could afford it at the time and was widely thought to be the best of the breed due to being designed to suit a jimny. Currently I am trying to sort out new shocks after lifting it with some top spec Zanfi springs. The trailmaster shocks are still in there and have never had any issues at all, so for me, the extra expense at initial purchase is far outweighed by the lasting performace it resulted in :-) When im looking at new shocks i am learing about things like rebound rate, valving, fluid or gas, etc, and the importance of getting it correct for the weight of the car, lift, etc. The cheaper options are excellent value and do the job for bashing about on pay and play, but the specs i see upon comparison lead me to think they are 'something that fits' rather than designed by clever buggers to be the right thing for the job. As i use my jimny on the road as well, i want it to be as good as possible to drive there, as well as a monster in the sticky stuff :-)

Some of the cheap things ive tried have lasted, most have not. This leads to my current approach of wait and get the better ones when you can afford it! (took a year of saving for the lockers!). Obviously the guy spinning around with the massive lift and massive grin mentioned was having fun, but i suspect not for long before problems. Great if they love spannering, not so fab if its got to get you to work the next day! Horses for courses ;-)

Crickey! I've not read this argument about some Suzuki owners being cheapskates for a while!
