Spark plugs are due at 60k miles from memory and are Iridium. The cheaper ones don't work well. It's the only thing on the car that requires the expensive option.

Clutch cable adjustment is under a plastic cover under the gearbox. It might need some WD40 to free it up. Start saving for a new clutch though.

Haha, thanks - I have literally just got back from my first proper off roading experience in Grizedale Forest, fair to say I think I will be needing a new clutch sooner than I thought lol.

For the price of it, get a new cable when the clutch is fitted as it will make it much lighter and far more pleasant!

I agree with you on the spark plugs Kirkynut, I fitted the iridium after finding the cheap set fitted was making the car a bit jerky particularly at slow speeds. I'd have to change down a gear earlier but now I can use 4th in 3rd again. A very odd symptom.

I forgot to say that Grizedale is a great fun lane and a good introduction to landing. Most lanes are a lot tamer though! Easier on the clutch too!

Thanks Kirkynut,
I didn't want to go far or do anything too hard until I had done a decent service on the car, then I could have confidence that the basics would be right.
But unlike Jimny Cricket, my conscience was not my guide, my guide was a Liar know as Gareth, who said he knew a couple of easy roads!!!
I know Grizedale pretty well, it's only 10 miles from home. But I have never considered taking a car up it before!!!
Fair to say, my Jimny handled more than I would have given it credit for, a very impressive little car.
And I now know how far I can push it if I ever need to. It was a great experience.
With the right love and affection, I can see me having years of fun with Vinny (see the reg no - my wife doesn't know the urban slang use haha).

To reduce clutch wer and tear (it smells like Smokey Bacon crisps when its struggling) I would recommend getting a 4:1 Low Box (some call it a Lobster). This means (in low box) you'll be pulling away in 2nd or 3rd Gear and for going down-hills in 2nd or 1st you'll rarely h=use any braking (which is always bad dwonhills, as you want wheel turning slowly - aka traction - and not skidding ...

So overall, a Low box will be gentle on the clutch and the brakes, and will increase you to use lower revs on the engine

Jalapeño, IISY?
