new windscreen cost was created by whitfield
Im officialy an idiot, managed to crack the screen in our 1999 jimny.
Got a price of about £160 fitted including vat.
Anyone else had one fitted?
Car isnt insured, is nearly out of test and its bad enough to fail so cant claim.
Just wondered if anyone had found anywhere cheaper.

where is it cracked ...as long as it does not restrict your driving view, no need to replace it

Jalapeño, IISY?

Its cracked from errr, near the errr....

Wiper spindle ;)

One layer cracked to the pillar, other layer cracked up and towards the center. It extends about 4" into the swept area.

actually I think that sounds a bargain compared with modern windscreens that are bonded in.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

I had one fitted last week - insurance job, but still had to pay £75 excess so your price doesn`t sound too bad. Having read your previous topic and considering your present comments I would be tempted to get shut of this Jimny and try again as it will cost you more to fix this up than it will to replace it.

Think I paid £130-ish a couple of years ago after lots of ringing around so £160 sounds reasonable. You might get it down a bit by playing companies off against each other.

In general its not a bad car. Little bit of rust, little untidy in places but runs and drives lovely.

It was the typical cenario. We had £1k budget so had given up on finding a jimny. Couldnt find anything under that which wasnt spares or repair, needing major work.
Of course the minute I bought this one I found 2 much better, far lower mileage cheaper ones!

Never mind, im not bothered. I enjoy playing with cars and am capable of doing any work required myself (ive never had anyone fix anything on a car for me in my life!).

It only needs to serve my wife for a year as her first car. The whole situation was going great untill I stupidly cracked the screen!

£160 sounds reasonable.....I've been quoted £86 at mates rates......might be free if I restore another Lambretta side panel?

So the £86 is the price window fitters pay for the screen....I need to get in touch with him again to see if he found one with the sunstrip in like they have in europe.

£160 is not too bad. When I was fitting windscreens we charged £100 for fitting a bonded screen + whatever the glass cost. Some insurance companies got it cheaper due to bulk discounts.
The less common the windscreen type the more expensive the screen.
