I have things in my boot all in used sheep lick boxes with lids on. The boxes are red and the lids are yellow and consequently are somewhat visible through the gangster tinted rear window but they look like sheep food boxes and not particularly interesting. Would it be more obscure if I were to abandon the multiple bright boxes in favour of one larger box in black that whilst fairly obviously a box for things would be less easily identified through the gangster tint on the back window. My rear side windows are opaque being a van and the view into the back from the front is obscured fairly well by the seats and my predilection for putting coats over them to air off. Oh and it is all lifted out on a night because of paranoia.Thoughts please

Have a look at these:
www.diy.com/departments/really-useful-ex...ge-box/303702_BQ.prd
I use two of the big ones, which fit nicely in the back where the seats used to be. very anonymous and very strong, easy to lift in& out as well.
Or you could think about making some kind of large flat drawer for tools, which would make the back look empty for prying eyes

That's the sort of thing or somewhere in the empire of junk i have a huge plastic trunk its just whether it is more or less obvious what it is in a black box compared to repurposed ones. I don't want draws as I need the volume fo taking hay out in winter.

I'd have thought sheep lick boxes, whatever the colours, are about as unsuspecting as you could get. No self respecting criminal would waste time rummaging through a farm truck in the hope there might be anything of value. If they looked through ours all they would find is lambing gloves and bits of string.

Yeah I know what you mean nothing in mine is irreplaceable or particularly valuable, ropes coats hammers nails, it's more a case of minimising the hassle of a break in by making it as discreet as possible. Whilst most of the places I frequent are safe and quiet a couple have a bit too much public access with who knows what kinds of people able to have a good look through the windows.

In my boot I have my recovery gear and my knives in a locked toolbox. Never liked the bits on show so just cut some plywood to the size of the boot including the curve of the rear door. Sprayed it matt black. when you look in the windows it just looks like the boot is empty. Its resting on the armrest bit either side.

If I weren't in and out of the back almost constantly throughout the day i would have some sort of cover thing but having had similar on estate cars in the past they become frustrating and left off or out or forgotten about when it matters. At least with a big box it's just an integral lid. The other option is to have less things i suppose but then you are always having to come back to the job with the correct things that you could have just had with you. I'm thinking a big box is the future. Cheers all for the input.
