I bought a folding workbench from them just before I moved house. I got rid of a couple of B&D Workmates for a number of reasons and also binned an older folding workbench which I had battered over the years. So I assembled the Lidl one the other day and sat on it to rest my weary body from assembling it and the bloody top broke. Made of MDF I should have expected but wait, I had one for years and have used club hammering on it plus it is supposed to take 100kg and I am nowhere near that. So I phoned Lidl and got BS about "You are not supposed to sit on it".
I only phoned them as I have not got the receipt.
What a bunch, it is brand new and unmarked and were I near to my original Lidl I would have marched it back.

I did a similar thing to a silverline one but i just cut and drilled a piece of 3/4 inch pine and screwed that in place. Sorted. I take your point though that it should be able to perform especially when new.

Yes, what angers me is that I took one to the tip which had perfectly usable jaws - I only slung it because most of the rest of it had broken, winder handles, leg stay etc. so it had become a bit lethal with it.
I do have a piece of scrap wood I can use when I get my workshop which I have nicknamed the "hut" up and running (it lacks electrics right now).

Go to your new local Lidl and buy another one if they have them. Then the next day take the broken one back with your newly aquired receipt for a refund or credit note. A bit crooked, but i don't think you'll do porridge.

It's been fettled just a tad.

Looking at this article i would say you norway lot are weird as you all prefer to pay very high prices for loyalty rather than realise what the rest of europe and now usa have, lidl sells some really good stuff and being the worlds 5th largest retailer can provide very cheap prices...
But it does appear that the retailers in norway feared lidl so conspired against them ?...
Being a professional tradesman i personally think they sell a lot of budget tools and things that are actually quite good, and the odd one or two items have been superior to the top brand names !

Just so you know, you don't need a receipt. You just need 'proof of purchase'. This can be a cheque stub, a bank statement, or a credit card statement. Even if the shop tells you "need a receipt", you DO NOT. You only have to prove you bought it there. If you knew the date and time, you could even ask them to check their CCTV (but they wouldn't). Big stores will even have their own barcode on the label, proving the product was bought from them - so don't try and pass off an item bought in a different shop! Even if you don't have ANY proof of purchase, don't give up just yet. Write to the head office (recorded delivery) and report the matter to Citizens Advice, who will automatically notify your local Trading Standards. Ask the store's HO for 'Alternative Dispute Resolution'. And always remember that if a product is faulty, you demand your money back, not a credit note. They MUST give you your money back.
