Paras red 2002 jimny jlx was created by paradox1001
I bought my jimny from a trader in Bradford in March 2017 with 3 owners from new with 46000 miles on the clock
The last owner had it since 2012
I was well aware of how bad they rot so had to go and see it when the trader showed a picture with the boot carpet lifted to show a non rotten floor.
It turned out to be a surprisingly rot free jimny as far as I could tell from crawling underneath with a torch in my mouth.

Here it is the day I brought it home

It’s our only car and my wife doesn’t drive yet works 12 miles away in a mix of country lanes and normal roads
It does 50 plus miles each day with infrequent longer trips.

It’s been used for family camping trips to the lakes

Aswell as log shifting duty

Work done since I bought it
Engine oil and filter change
Yokohama geolander all terrain tyres
New centre cat fitted
Front discs and pads fitted
Rear monroe dampers fitted
Nearside wheel bearing
Both sides swivel bearings and seals
Both sides track rod ends
Calliper sliders and rubbers
Blue tooth cd/radio
Vibe front speakers
Rear exhaust section
Tow bar
Osram night breaker lazer head lamp bulbs

Nice.
What are your impressions of the new tyres, road noise, grip on road / off road?
Will need new myself eventually and may change the current road tyres to AT, but not sure at the moment.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

She's looking good Para!
What make/brand towbar did you fit, and have you got any issues with the exhaust rattling against the towbar?

Scimike sounds like the same tyres as mine I've got Geolanders but they're an all-season variant. Put it this way; I'd definitely choose them again - they're no noisier than the old ones but really good in the wet. Not had the chance to drive mine in mud or bad snow yet, but from the reports of others I'm feeling confident.

Thats good feedback on the tyres.

Rattle of exhaust on tow bar
I fitted a Witter and found the rear silencer rested on the towbar lower cross brace. The issue was the after market silencer, viewed from the rear it was not level with the car, the right side much lower than the left. The right side was resting on the tow bar rather than being supported by the right side rubber hanger. I had to bend the right side silencer hanger towards the silencer, effectively lifting this side. Once done the silencer was level with the rear of the car and cleared the tow bar....no more rattles.
May be different exhaust as mine is 2009.

Sorry to hijack your topic Para!

Thanks for the feedback Scimike - mine is a Tow-Sure job but I can't imagine they're that much different. I've not fitted it yet, and my tail-pipe is level so hopefully no dramas.

Scimike if you have any further questions on the Yoko' Geolanders please feel free to drop me a PM

@Scimike

I’m really impressed with the tyres
Very little road noise from them and great wet grip on road
They performed brilliantly in the bad snow we had earlier in the year
I haven’t done any heavy off-roading with them but across grass fields, stoney gravel tracks and muddy verges they have been fine.

They are a night and day difference to the duellers the car came with.

They just don’t look as good as bfg all terrains or general grabbers.

I can’t remember the make of the towbar only I bought it off eBay
It was fine with the exhaust that was in the car but when that rotted out and I fitted a new one
The new one was slightly longer and tapped on one of the towbar brackets.
I cured it by making a buffer from some rubber fuel hose with a cable tie running through the centre to fasten it to the bracket.

@lambert
It’s not as red as it should be anymore
It’s going quite pink so needs a good going over with compound in the mop.

Thanks for feedback, on your exhaust Para.
That's a good fix on the rattling if there was nothing else you could do; its exactly what I think I would have resorted to doing. I doubt it will chaffe through, but it might be worthwhile checking that rubber is still keeping the two apart; you wouldnt want a holy exhaust later.

For some reason red paint on most makes is quick to oxidise which is what is happening to yours.
Vauxhall had a huge problem with it. You will find a virtually endless amount of information on how best to 'correct' it on a site called Detailing World . Be awware there are many abbreviations used by detailers and you may find "LSP" commonly used with regards to oxidising - this just means "Last step product" meaning the last stuff you would apply.
Unfortunately once started you will need to reapply every few months.
There is a good example of info HERE where there are five pages of discussion culminating with some photos of the rectification at the end of the thread.
I note also there was product by Meguirs called "#7 Show Car Glaze" is said to have been produced specifically for this problem. Read the wole thread and follow the comments made there by someone there called Stangalang.
After that is all fixed you will need to seal it in using some good quality wax - its the wax that will need re-applying every so often.

Hope you find something there to help!

The rubber pipe is doing fine
It shrank a little from the heat and became loose but I just repositioned it and tightened the cable tie up.
I’ll know if it’s chafed through as it will start knocking again.
Yeah the paints oxidised as I don’t think it been waxed for years.
I had a red fiesta xr2i years ago that was the same.

I’ll be using autoglym paint renovator, autoglym super resin then autoglym extra gloss with a da polisher when I get round to doing it.

I’ve used those products before to great effect and I’ve no doubt the will bring the Jimnys paint back to great condition.

I’ve treated the jimny to some new wiper blades today
Valeo for the front and Bosch for the rear as that’s what the motor factors had.

With new wipers and night breaker bulbs I now should be able to see where I’m going better.
