Hi there, im hoping somebody has an answer which i havnt yet come across.
Loosening of Crank Pulley Bolt.
I have tried the worrying turning engine over briefly whilst socket and bar in place.
FAILED !
? jamming bar or alike through remainder of pulley ? will this not jam on an alluminium casing ?
therefore risking damaging that.
Is there a counter rotation tool available for use when undoing these ?
any help much appreciated.

I had to change my pulley, it is drilled with 2 x M8 holes, so I made a tool out of a piece of metal, large hole to get the socket on to the pulley in the centre and two smaller holes for a pair of M8 bolts to screw in to the pulley.
Then put the car in gear and jam the metal jib with a block of wood. I needed a long breaker bar to shock the pulley nut free, but it came out.
See the post here www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum/6-jimny...just-fell-off#227323
Alternatively, if you can get access from the front, put it in gear 4WD with the hand brake on and use an impact driver to losen the nut.

Good luck, hope the pulley comes off without too much trouble.
Mine was fairly tight, much tighter than the torque setting in the manual. It was the original so I don't know if they tighten with use or just become stuck.
If you were near Newcastle Upon Tyne, you could borrow my 'service tool', but one would be fairly easy to make, drilling the large hole for the socket will be the hardest thing.

Excellent news, that was quick.
I have kept my 'Service Tool' and block of wood on the shelf in the garage just in case it is needed again.
Cheers

Interesting to hear that the starter motor trick didn't work. It's always worked for me. Not enough power in the starter motor?
