Gen4 - Fitting JimnyBits Front and Rear Diff Guards

Can anyone who has fitted Jimnybits Front and / or Rear Diff Guards please give me a little advice... Sorry if they are daft questions!

Rear Dif Guard

It looks as if this is secured in place by two U-Shaped clamps and by the two existing bottom bolts of the Differential casing

Firstly... if I remove the two bottom bolts from the diff housing won't I loose some differential oil?... or is it just a case of "doing it quickly" before too much comes out?

Secondly... how tight should the U-Shaped clamps be tightened up?... My experience with U-Shaped clamps is that you can almost keep tightening them up for ever... until they squash something, of their thread "goes"

Front Diff Guard

It looks like this is attached to the radius arm mountings on one side and by a U-Shaped clamp on the other

My question here is... Do I just remove the two radius arm bolts and slide the one side of the diff guard between the radius arm and it's mounting... and if so do I need to support anything before taking these bolts out?... or am I trying to fit it incorrectly?

A small amount of oil will run out on the rear diff. But nothing to worry about, just don't take hours before you put them back in ;)

U clamps, do them until the guard no longer moves. The guard needs to support the weight of the vehicle (well half of it at any rate). But you don't need to over-tighten them.

Front is easy, as per the instructions supplied with the guard. Don't need to support anything. Click the link in my sig to my build thread, I have some photos of fitting the guards :)

You say... "The guard needs to support the weight of the vehicle (well half of it at any rate)"... are you using them BOTH of the diff guards as jacking points then?

I've read the stuff on your build thread now, but I'm still a little unsure about the front one, probably because I didn't receive any instructions with it. It looks from your photos that the left side of the guard (looking at your photo) just presses up against the radius arm support bracket, located in place over the radius arm bolts, without actually being secured in position by any sort of fixing. If I'm understanding that correctly and that is the case, why do I need to remove one of the radius arm bolts?... I may be missing something obvious here

If they're anything like the gen3 then they are clamped by the radius arm bolts on the driver side and a clamped bracket over the axle tube on the passenger side.
