M16A swap which is better was created by sealine150
Hi from Greece. I have a 2009 Jimny m13 with vvt.
I am looking for a m16 swap.
There are 2 options.
M16 vvt from sx4
M16 vvt from swift sport
The first has more torque and the second more horsepower.
Which is better for a jimny with 235s tires stock gear and also daily driven??

Both will be the same when fitted into a Jimny.

The differences in power/torque are down to the inlet/exhaust setup and the ECU.

You need to be wary of swift engine from 2010 onwards as the crank trigger changed design and wont work after that year with a Jimny ECU.

Pickup/tipper, R7me gearbox & 6.4 Rocklobster, 31" Toyo MT, 2x ARB air locker 3.9 diffs in braced axles, 6" total lift, Floating rear conversion, Raptor painted, CB, Recaro's, Caged, etc, etc...

No mechanical difference between the engines, as Riccy says it's all down to induction/exhaust and the "map".

The Swift sport 05-09 (Denso ECU) which you are considering has 123bhp, that was increased to 134bhp with changes to those components in the 2010 (Bosch ECU) model.

When fitted to the 1.3 induction system in the Jimny, I think they are quite heavily restricted. I have driven a few now and I would be surprised to see much over the 100bhp mark. They are a definite improvement and I want to do one myself in the future, but I think they don't reach their potential when installed as a 1.3.

170-180bhp is seen from the same engine with just cams and the correct fuel / exhaust set up. Lightweight and powerful, a good engine, if you have the money to extract the power from it......

There is a way for remap the M13 Ecu with M16 ecu maps and works fine.
So i think that the ecu problem will be solved with that one. the other thing is Swift engine is rarer than SX4. and much cheaper.

The cam trigger wheel is different from 2010 onwards so the Jimny ecu can't run the engine.

One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
