Notchy gearbox. 2nd, 4th, reverse only? was created by Young Pretender
Hi folks

Recently replaced the clutch and had anticipated that it would resolve my notchy gbox but no. Also replaced gbox mount.

Extremely notchy gbox in 2nd, 4th and reverse only. No amount of positive shifting overcomes this, its quite bad and has got progressively worse of late. Almost as if the gear lever is flexing when shifting into those gears.

Terminal gbox or is there something simple I can check first? Was wondering whether it may just be easiest to source a used box and get that fitted rather than wasting money chasing fixes but not sure how many hours labour to replace box if anyone knows?

Any help welcome thanks

I would be wanting that either rebuilding or replacing with a good used one asap. The bearings are relatively simple to replace but the shafts they carry on are not. My research suggests that locally a rebuild is about 400 to 500 quid.

Any other ideas for me guys - anyone had a similar problem?

Wondering if there are any cheap things I can try. Some decent gbox oil maybe?

Cheers

Post the year and model of the car, chances are that someone on the forum will be able to help with a spare box.

Checked the 2 rubber bushes at the back of the shifter mechanism underneath the car? Might be worth having a look at this thread and checking them... LINK
