Sluggish up hills, blocked cat?

Anyone have any thoughts on why my 2002 Jimny would be sluggish up hills? Won't rev beyond 3000 rpm, and sounds pained doing it. Read online it might be a blocked cat? Just changed the front lambda sensor after it triggered the eml, but that hasn't improved things. Thoughts?

Flexi cam trough Lambda sensor hole to inspect the top of the cat. It should be a nice honycomb structure.

Not something daft like blocked air-filter is it?
I changed a brand new paper filter for a K&N job and was totally surprised at the difference it made.

Mine did not look to bad actually but the improvement when changed was awesome! Still amazed by the improvement 6 months later.
I tried flushing it with water first which gave a small improvement.

Mine is the VVT not sure if the older ones have the two-cat system but the first one in the manifold often disintegrates and the dust and debris from it clutters up the second one.

I have completely removed the first one and use a OEM cat for up to 2.0 liter engines where the number two cat was.
It has produced two fault codes for ineffective cat in cold weather but just delete those and its ok.

Bought mine at Biltema, it is a kind of Halfords i guess.
