Swivel ball replacement was created by dumb_dom
I replaced my kingpin bearings around six months ago, and they have went on one side already, when taking apart I’ve noticed this lip on the swivel ball where the bearings go has been cracked almost all off and the bearing was no longer a nice round shape as if it has been crushed, I don’t know what could have caused this as this isn’t a jimny used for anything but smooth tarmac roads....well uk roads.

Anyways my question is can you buy the swivel ball separate or is it a hole new axle job?

P.s. photo is just a google image for an idea of what I’m taking about

Its a complete new axle casing, the swivels are welded onto the casing.

which bit has gone/cracked off? tha actual ball part or the bit around the bearings?

The little bit of lip around the bearings if that makes any sense. And that sucks

Are you referring to the bearing race?

There's no lip around the bearing.

Sorry I can’t get a picture of mine as it’s at the garage on my friends lift, this is the bit I’m referring to, I’m unsure what it’s called

The chrome part is where the bearing sits and should be replaced whenever the bearings are changed (they come with the bearing usually).

See the Wiki guide here... bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=King_pin_bearing_change

p.s. as Tom says, thats called the 'bearing race'

Thank you so much for your time, I’ve got my friend replacing it as I’m not mechanically confident. I can only assume my kit didn’t come with that for some reason making him think it was a fixed part, I’m over the moon it’s not though panic avoided!

Thank you again!

The bearing races can be knocked out with a suitably sized socket on an extension bar -

Then the new bearing race can be carefully tapped into the hole for it -

Hope the photos help!

The kit always comes complete with bearing itself and race.
