A lockright or ARB will put double the torque through the drive shafts compared to an open diff, but this isn't usually a problem on the rear axle.

People's experience with lockrights does vary. They seem a bit marmite, and installing them correctly isn't as straight forward as it would seem. But they are definitely a cheap and effective way to get a locking diff.
