MOT Epic fail........ was created by Back in Black
Jimny has just had his mot test and has failed most spectacularly :(

He's got 5 rusted body mounts - 2 at the front, one either side in the middle and one rear mount. Is it possible to get the mounts replaced? If so, does anyone know how much they are and where I could get them?

Any help greatly appreciated

Sure jimnybits could do some as they make up the extended ones for bodylifts.

The problem will be trying to get the current ones out, front and rear would be ok to replace the full mount but I think the middle ones would need new sections welded in from inside under the rear seats.

Could be looking at several hours of garage rates unless doing it all yourself.

Might want to do a body lift as wouldn't cost much more.

Sure someone will advise of mount availability and Gaz and others can advise specifically on labour and technicalities involved.

Good luck
:(

Hi Halford,

Thank you for the feedback, I'll see what others say about replacing them. Unfortunately I can't weld, so it will be garage rates to get them done :(

Already have the body lift spacers in place ! Doh

stick some penetrating oil on them yhen see if you can crack them open,

else will need them on a ramp and some heat applied with fingers crossed.

I think you got your wires crossed it will be the bits on the body that have rusted not the bits that just unbolt and replace. That would be easy welding up the bit I think he means is a diffrent ball game

I'm of the same opinion, I suspect that it is the areas of the bodyshell that have corroded not the actual bolts, if you can't weld or don't know someone who can then be prepared to assume the position because it will not be a cheap fix.

That's the reason I didn't try to MOT my old jimny this year, all 8 body mounts rotten along with rear crossmember, inner and outer sills. Front and rear would be weldable but there's no access to the middle ones especially the ones in front of the rear wheels. It's a lot of work for an experienced I'm afraid.

On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.

Thanks guys for the feedback - I've attached the mot for clarification - the exhaust is no worries, I have a cherry bomb on the back (which passed last year!?) so could get a back box for a retest, the coil spring is easily replaced, and I can take the tow bar off (this was on last year too).

Its the mounting issues that are the ball breakers!! If it is fixable, I'm presuming it is it a body off job for welder access?

Time to build a beach buggy perhaps?

Reading that and with you saying you can't weld I would seriously be looking for a new one because garage prices for all that will be more than it is worth. Alternatively if you have other transport I would think about taking it off the road for a few months and doing a welding course at the local night school and do it yourself but even so it will be a lot of work , especially without a workshop and ramp.
