Don't ignore noise from 3rd/4th. The bearings are relatively cheap to obtain but the gear shafts are very expensive. The bearings collapse and destroy the shafts they sit on.

Striped the box down to day and all the bearings are okay. All the gears are good. Little bit puzzled now.

Had a good look at gears to day and all seems good. Think I'll order the bearing and seal kit off ebay in the morning and see how I get on.

Have you examined the transfer box too? A loud buzzing sound could be the chain slipping? Also consider the prop shaft joints which might be allowing contact between things that shouldn't?

I havent taken it apart. But I've drained the oil and there in minamal play on the input and output all feels nice. Also this only happens in 3rd and 4th. I've ordered the bearings ill rebuild the box and try run it on the bench some how.

Bearings changed rebuilt twice after getting one of the gears backwards and all is good again. All the old bearings seemed in good condition as well. Now to sort the squeeky exhaust.
