This is an old thread but I just that I would update it (in case anyone reading it with the same issue wants to know the cure).....a new crankshaft sensor fixed the problem.

good stuff

i had exactly the same problems, replaced both sensors from an engine in work, fixed :)

Hi, I know this is really old now but just checking with you.

I have been having the same problems when I have done a long drive then park up my jim just dies. I leave it for 5-10 mins and starts after a bit of a chug!!

Mine is a 2000 model so how many and which sensors do I have?

2 sensors, one at the front of the engine, the second, a real pig to get at. Have a look at Martin's Tips for details of how to change / test them. expect to pay £40 ish each

Thanks ooky_123. I read what Martin had said at the beggining and does he not say before 2001 there is only 1 sensor. Im confused now :side:

Just quickly, is yours a soft top or hard top ?

When you look at your engine does it have a black plastic cover ontop of the engine or is it alloy ?

Ok, so its most probably the G13BB engine ( the older engines, same as the SJ's ).

I believe the sensor is at the front of the sump... the oil pump is tapped to accept it. There should be an exploded "under bonnet" view in Martin's How to section ... Failing that, try searching the archive for "G13BB Crank Sensor" ... Ill have a trawl too, see if I can find anything

Hi Ooky_123, Iv tried looking under my bonnet but still cant find it.
There is an engine management garage in town I might take it to for them to have a look.. Thanks for your help. At least I kind of know what to say to them now! :blink: :whistle:

I have this same issue but seem to get conflicting information, is the crankshaft sensor the one at the front of the engine or the one under the alternator? i have a 2002 jimny the DOHC one with both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. i believe from reading other people issues that i need the crankshaft sensor.

When I had the same problem as you it was the one behind the alternator. It sound silly but take it out and get it hot so it starts playing up and then squirt a little water on the sensor to cool it down. If the car starts running properly again then you'll know that it's at fault.
