Do all Jimny's have about an inch of steering wheel movement before it actually moves the wheels? no matter what wheel possition, when changing direction.

My 99 jimny with 45k has the same issue i put it down to the steering box being a bit worn or suspension bushes which i have yet to replace, i have a landrover steering damper fitted and it still wanders a bit but not quite so bad.

Remember its a 4x4 not a sports car, both the jimny and grand vitara have sloppy steering, my g/f hates that about our Grand Vitara over her old yaris which felt more positive on the steering.

Check the panhard rod bushes, if there knackered they can cause excessive slogger in the steering.

You can take up slack in the steering box with the adjuster screw if needs be - but don;t mess with it unless you've eleiminated everything else and then test it for tightness with the wheels off the ground so there is no resistance as you don;t want to overtighten your steering box or it will not last long!
