Think we could all do with one of these just now  Maybe if the council got some the roads would actually be cleared. Or royal mail, so I actually get some post. Sorry, rant coming on there ;) For the cost of a 2nd hand jimny that can get through the snow; you can, erm, get through the snow...??

I had that idea last year .. easy to mount a 5ft blade to a Jimny ... tow a small hopper fed gritter behind.. easy. Ive seen a number of SJ's withthis setup clearing footbaths and cycle paths in Austria over the last few months.

I read in Practical Farm Ideas journal last year, that a lot of farmers are using SJ and even Jimnys to do slug pelleting rather than a quad. The thieving
that usually nick quads are less likely to nick an sj/ jimny as they can't pick them up and put them in a van/ pickup. The article showed that one farmer had bolted a slug pelleter/ fertiliser spinning to the spare wheel mount on his sj, and wired it into the rear window wiper switch - chug up and down the tram lines and job done. He said that you could chuck a fair few bags in the back and when it emptied, just stop, fill up and carry on, unlike the quad where you had to return to the yard or a trailer. Added advantage of this - your in the warm, no rain and can have the radio on. Register it as an ag vehicle and bingo - nackered sj = lot cheaper than a quad!!

Slug pelleters are fairly cheap - would be the same principle for salt/ grit spreading. I spoke to a mate last week who does commercial slug pelleting with his quad - he'd thought about doing salting on car parks, but the insurance required was so expensive he couldnt justify even considering it. He had all the kit for his slug pelleting business and rang up to extend his public liability for slugs to snow, and in his words - "almost had a heart attack".

I reckon it could be easy money if the insurance wasnt so high, all the major supermarkets round here are like skid pans - ready made market. Dont fancy risking it though - only need one numpty to skid/ slip and the ambulance with its insurance claims man would definately out run my jimny!!
