Hi I really would be grateful for any advice please, regarding my Jimny  2001 model which we had modified a few years ago. The back was modified by a business up in Keighley, North Yorkshire.
Our Jimny was my hubbies pride and joy as it took him, and me when I was free, down our bit of woodland most days. Unfortunately my hubby suddenly passed away end of last year. The Jimny is now in my name and when I recently took it for MOT, the garage where we have always taken it to, has told me that Jimny needs quite a bit of welding under the cab area. I have read through some of your pages and apparently rust here is a major problem.
The quote they have given for welding is around £2000. Has anyone any suggestions as to what to do? The car is old but a good runner and I would hate to just send it to the scrap yard.

If you want to restore it as a "keeper", I'm sure that a better price than 2K can be found. I can think of a few local shops that would just about rebuild a truck cab for that sort of money.

I think the firm in Keighley your husband used will be KAP Suzuki, if that is of help.

If you can find the right workshop, most are saveable. Whereabouts are you? There may be a someone on the forum who can point you in the right direction.

It may well have a sale value that's a bit of a surprise, if you are considering letting it go. Post some pictures and the guys will guide you on price.

Rust is very normal on a Jimny and as such there are many people who can fix it relatively cheaply. Your quote certainly sounds high. I'd ask around some small independant garages. If they can't do it themselves they will know someone that can. A Jimny pickup is a sought after vehicle, especially if it was a professional conversion, so whatever you do don't let it go for scrap or sell it for pennies!

Thanks Busta. I really do not want to scrap Jimny, she has character but I need to consider this repair job costs. Trouble is they found this on MOT.

As others have said find a specialist body shop they will do a much better job for you than a garage doing MOT repairs. There are rust repairs and there are rust repairs.

I've done a fair few body repairs on them over some time now and they all suffer the same problem in the same areas,
pm your details to me let's have a chat if you've not got it sorted
