Came back to the Jimny to find this. No CCTV and no idea whodunnit, apart from the fact that it was likely a van
Repair is more complicated than it looks because the panel gap has closed up near the lower hinge, and the corner is a double angle
lnsurance say it might need a rear corner panel
but local bodyshop think they can repair it, depending on whether they can get behind the panel.
Have to take off the inside trim and have a look.
At least the bumper isn't damaged

Oh no, sorry to see that. From memory when I was running the rear dash cam through that is an enclosed box section that make up the C-pillar.

That’s annoying, people just don’t seem to care these days. My Jimny has a scratch on the drivers wing extending backwards from the headlight, that was with it parked in the street outside my house. Chief suspect is a kid from round the corner on his bicycle, I caught him today very close to my Jimny so asked him to stay clear.
Fortunately the worst of it has gone with T-cut.

I'm given to understand that chicks dig scars, but that's more than that. Hope you're able to get it sorted.

It might be possible to pull that from the outside - essentially one or more tabs is attached to the sheet metal from the outside and a slide hammer puller is used to pull the metal back to it's original shape.

Yeah maybe, going to leave it to the body shop to decide.
These people are pretty good, it will be an easy job compared to some of the damage they have to repair.

Update, repaired and even under close scrutiny it's not detectable.
Local body shop are excellent, l've used them before on my Land Rovers.
Having removed the interior trim and seat belt spool it was possible to get to the back of the damaged panel, which made repair easier.
l've just got to refit the wheel arch trim, which means removing the bumper and sill cover.
l removed it myself to make the job cheaper.
